Three separate original video animations have also been released. The first OVA series, Greed Island, was released in 2002 and ran for 13 episodes. The second OVA series, Hunter × Hunter: Phantom Rouge, was released in 2013 and ran for one episode. The third OVA series adaptation of the Chimera Ant arc began airing on February 16, 2014 and is still ongoing with 5 episodes having aired so far.
A live-action film adaptation of Hunter × Hunter was announced in 2011 but no further news has surfaced since then about its development status.

The story follows Gon Freecss, a young boy who dreams of becoming a Hunter like his father, who left him when he was still a child. Along the way, Gon meets various other Hunters and learns the truth about his father’s disappearance.
The anime series was produced by Madhouse and directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi. The first season aired on Nippon Television from October 2, 2011 to March 31, 2012, for a total of 148 episodes. The second season aired on the same network from April 7, 2014 to September 28, 2014, for a total of 62 episodes. A third season began airing on October 3, 2016.
The English dub of the first two seasons was licensed by Viz Media and aired on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block from April 16, 2016 to April 29, 2017. The third season is licensed by Crunchyroll and airs on their website.
